My Journey 🛣️

Some questionably interesting things I've done on my journey to present day - many of which I was unsure to include or not!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to adding more experiences in the future (inshallah)!

🔬 The London Epithelial Group - Royal Free Research Project

This was a short project I did a few years ago. It involved looking at the effects of a specific transporter gene found in the brain and kidneys. It was my first real experience of research!

🧠 Neuroscience iBSc (Hons) [September 2018 - July 2019]

During my third year at UCL, I chose to intercalate in Neuroscience. My interests revolved around control of movement and pain processes. One of my medical specialities interests include Neurology too, although I do find myself drawn to more 'generalist' professions.

🔬 Queen Square Project [September 2018 - December 2019]

During my iBSc year, I undertook a project looking at changes in the central nervous system (CNS) during the process of learning a new skill or adapting a learnt skill. In particular, we looked at changes to the motor and sensory pathways over this period of time.

🩺 GMC Annual Conference [April 2019]

During the Summer of 2018, a peer and I were awarded a prize by the General Medical Council (GMC) for our work creating teaching material for medical schools on professionalism. The following year, we were invited to present this work at the GMC Annual Conference.

🌍 UCL Arab & North African Society [July 2018 - July 2019]

Arab & NA Society
During my year of intercalation I served as Treasurer of the UCL Arab & North African Society. Highlights included organising and leading an event with Jon Snow of Channel 4 News, setting up a new networking programme for the community and raising money for Yemen!

💨 Kickstart Accelerator Programme - London [November 2018]

kickstartglobal.com
It was difficult to find other medical students with similar entreprenurial interests. As a result, I decided on applying to Kickstart, an 'accelerator programme' for students looking to solve big problems in society. It was very nice to meet like-minded people outside of Medicine and I thoroughly recommend students to apply!

🙌🏽 Percent - Ambassador & Partnerships [July 2018 - July 2019]

wearepercent.com
This cool social enterprise is looking to revolutionise the way we give money to great causes. The concept is simple. Every time you spend money at one of their partnered restaurants, a small percentage of the payment goes to a cause of your choice (via the app). It's all done automatically at no extra cost to you! During my 3rd year I helped set up partners for Percent including big names such as Spaghetti House! I also helped them launch at UCL.

🤖 Founders of the Future - Fellow [January 2019]

foundersofthefuture.co
Launched by Founders Forum at 10 Downing Street in March 2016, Founders of the Future’s mission is to 'build a world-class pool of diverse and exceptional entrepreneurial talent who will build tomorrow’s high impact sustainable startups'. It's a great group I'm proud to be a part of!

🏛️ UK Delegation to the European Parliament [October 2019]

Just before the UK officially left the European Union (EU), I was fortunate enough to be selected to join a youth delegation from the United Kingdom to visit the European Parliament in Brussels and speak to EU officials and MEPs regarding the political landscape and its impact on the youth. I'm strongly opinionated when it comes to Brexit so it was a great opporunity for me!

🎤 ScrubbedIn: Podcast [February 2020]

Listen now 🔊
I joined two doctors (ex-King's College) on their podcast ScrubbedIn. The podcast features a wide range of subject and includes all sorts of guests. I spoke about Medmentor (the early form of it), my life experiences and how I approach opportunities.

💻 UCL MedTech [July 2019 - July 2020]

uclmed.tech
I was part of the UCL MedTech committee during my 4th year of medical school. I organised and lead events including an event with Rayna Patel from Vine Health and Matt Clifford from Entrepreneur's First. I was also part of the organising team for the hackathon and conference which included guests from Babylon, Microsoft, Google DeepMind and Kheiron. I believe one of the most exciting spaces in tech is the MedTech and EdTech space so naturally I loved this.

🇪🇸 Learning Spanish [Ongoing]

I took Spanish at AS-levels but dropped it for year 13. I've always enjoyed it but unfortunately not been much good. I'm trying to change that by doing a bit of Duolingo everyday! I can't say it's been 100% successful but everyday is a new day aha!

🥼 Medmentor [September 2020]

medmentor.co.uk
I founded Medmentor, a social enterprise to improve the socioeconomic landscape of Medicine. Our website features advice, resources and events to help aspiring doctors apply to medical schools. Our website is visited by over 5,000 students (1 in 6 applicants) every month.

🌙 Pillars [Ramadan 2021]

thepillarsapp.com
Pillars is an ad-free, Muslim made and privacy focused prayer app. It's used by 180,000 useres around the world and aims to be the number #1 companion app for Muslims. The app's been featured on BuzzFeed, Islam Channel and Good Morning America. I co-founded this with my good friend Tariq who I met at UCL (my university).

🩺 OSCEhub [November 2021]

oscehub.co.uk
I co-founded OSCEhub with two of my medical school peers with an aim to provide medical students a one-stop shop for their OSCE practice.

🌍 Muslim Business Network [September 2021]

uclmed.tech
This is an invite-only community of highly aspirational Muslim founders looking to build the next generation of high-impact startups in the world.

💻 NHS Clinical Entrepreneur [February 2022]

nhscep.com
I was fortunate enough to be accepted on the CEP programme given my experience building Medmentor and now building OSCEhub! I look to continue leveraging my tech skills in Medicine.

💊 Specialised Foundation Programme (MedEd) [August 2022 - August 2024]

I am on the Specialised Foundation Programme (SFP) at a DGH with a focus on medical education. This opportunity will give me time in my F2 to explore my passion of medical education and obtain a PGCert qualification.

🎓 Cambridge Teaching Fellow [August 2023 - August 2024]

As part of my F2 SFP (MedEd) year I will be a teaching fellow for Cambridge medical students, focusing on 4th year students at a large DGH in England.
